The MARS primary mission is to provide DOD sponsored emergency communications on an international, national and local basis as an addition to normal military communications. In conjunction with the primary mission, MARS performs the following functions:
1 Provide auxiliary communications for military and civil officials during periods of emergency. 2 Provides primary or backup communications capability for base disaster response forces. 3 Handles morale and quasi-official record and communications traffic for Armed Forces and authorized Government civilian personnel stationed throughout the world. 4 Creates interest and trains affiliates in military communications procedures. 5 Provides a potential reserve of trained radio communications personnel to augment military communications units or deployed teams when needed. |
